Christmas Mixed Case

Christmas Mixed Case

Ref: A1225

This is a trio of wines that can not possibly fail in pleasing everyone over Christmas. High end Burgundy, full and rich sparkling and an elegantly fruity claret.

Two bottles of Crémant de Bourgogne.
Situated in southern Burgundy and, under the guidance of Paul Brunet, the Cave de Lugny has, over the past twenty years, been making some of the best Crémant to be found in France. This Crémant de Bourgogne is made from 50% Pinot Noir and 50% Chardonnay, resulting in a ‘méthode traditionelle’ with great finesse and style, and a soft, ripe and balanced fruitiness. They are one of the few producers who believe in an extra period of bottle-ageing before release on the market.

Two bottles of Chablis Bois d'Yver 2015
The Bois d'Yver Chablis exhibits a steely fruitiness combined with a clean, crisp freshness and a generous weight.
(12.5% abv - 2015)

Georges Pico and his partner, Eliana Puentes, started out in a major supporting role, about six years’ ago, when we were looking for another source of village-Chablis, due to the shortage of supply from the Pinson brothers. The wines of Domaine de Bois d’Yver had come second in our investigative tastings in the early 1990’s and we had always remembered them as serious contenders for a place on our list.

This is an extensive 13 hectare domaine hidden-away on the back roads out of Chablis towards Courgis. They only started bottling their own wines in the mid-1980’s and took a while to establish themselves. However, today this is an estate that has gained a worldwide reputation for itself as a producer of Chablis and some 1er Cru wines (although very different to those of the Pinsons). Above all, they are wines that reflect their ‘terroir’.

Two bottles of Château des Joualles 2010 Bordeaux Superieur
Delightfully soft and ripe and bursting with black cherry fruitiness. Delicious now. An atypical claret from an atypical year.

The Freylon family were, until early on in 2004 when they sold it to an American consortium, the owners of the first-class St. Emilion Grand Cru property, Château Lassègue. They have kept their other family vineyard, Château des Joualles in the Bordeaux Supérieur zone and this 28 hectare estate, situated in the commune of Ruch, is widely regarded to be in the top league. Merlot 60%, Cabernet-Sauvignon 20%, Cabernet Franc 20% (2010 abv 14%)

Vacqueyras Cuvée Azalais 2012
Vacqueyras Cuve Azalais 2012
Recently, Robert Parker put Serge’s wines in to the superstar category but, typical of the man, he has maintained our allocation just as it was before, despite phenomenal demand from the USA.

Les Terrasses Merlot/Syrah
Les Terrasses Merlot/Syrah
Deep coloured with a bouquet of ripe cherry fruit, this is a very approachable wine with the emphasis on ripeness and "crunchy" fruit with excellent balance.
