Vincengetorix Sancerre Rouge 2014

Vincengetorix Sancerre Rouge 2014

Ref: A058414

Colour: soft, rich full vermilion red Bouquet: cherry fresh, with a hint of raspberries and pain grille.
Palate: Fascinating purity of opulent cherry fruit with a silky soft texture and minerality. Very intense and long on
the palate with splendid depth and vibrancy.
Suggested serving temperature: 12°-14°C

The twenty acre vineyard is in Sury-en-Vaux, a picturesque little village, lying amongst the green, verdant rolling hills of the Sançerrois. It is one of Sancerre’s 14 communes, situated about 6km. to the north-east of the hilltop town of Sancerre. Just outside the village is the tiny hamlet of Petit Chambre and this is where the enigmatic and passionate Vincent Gaudry lives with his partner Severine and their young son Arthur.
Since 1993, Gaudry has been one of the iconic producers of the organic and biodynamic movements and has swum against the current in a region that is highly conservative and resistant to change and new opinions. The red wines of Sancerre are made from the capricious Pinot Noir grape and Gaudry is a true master at growing and vinifying it.

Converting your farm to organics takes a long time and Vincent Gaudry started the process in 1993, achieving full biodynamic status in 2002. His main reason for going down this route is that he believes that his wines should reflect the earth the vines were grown in and express its terroir.
The grapes are influenced by the wide diversity of soils, clay, flint, limestone, marl and gravel, which give the wines a wonderful minerality. About two acres are given over to Pinot Noir.

Vincent is passionate about biodynamism and uses no artificial enzymes, yeasts or additives in the vinification. The red is aged for a year in barrels made from wood that was cut only on days suggested by the biodynamic calendar. This takes into effect the gravitational pull of the moon which dictates the density of the wood when it is cut. This attention to detail has not gone unnoticed in the world of organics and biodynamism and Romanee Conti are reported to have asked Vincent to teach his techniques to their staff.
