Legend has it that Issan's wines were served at the marriage of Eleanor of Aquitaine to Henry Plantagenet. It was certainly the favourite tipple of Emperor Franz-Joseph of Austria. Indeed the far from modest motto of the estate 'Regum mensis arisque deorum' translates as 'For the table of kings and the altar of gods'! Hmm - well it is a very good wine that's for sure.
