Description

Spreitzers Auslese is nothing short of sublime; elegant, seductively sweet but so well balanced with a superb level of acidity. Complex with a generous, super-ripe fruit and a very fine texture. Stunning. Drink 2010 - 2025

This family owned 15 hectare estate in the heart of Rheingau produces classic Rieslings of great freshness and finesse. The vineyards in Oestrich, Winkel and Hattenheim are planted mainly with Riesling (97%) with a little Spatburgunder (Pinot Noir) thrown in for good measure.

Bernhard Spreitzer and his brother, Andreas, are the fourth generation of the family to run this historic estate which has its roots in 1641. Meticulous attention to detail in both the vineyard and the winery are the keys to their success and, although their wines are little knowin this country, they are highly sought after in Germany where they constantly win acclaim and awards for their excellence.

Bernhard Spreitzer (the brothers' father) told us that 2006 was one of the hardest vintages he could remember due to the widespread rot in the vineyards. This delicious dry Riesling is a tribute to the skills of the Spreitzer family as it beautifully expresses both its terroir and the harmony of fruit and acidity so typical of Riesling at its very best.
