Description

The Fonseca Guimaraens house style is one of richness and warmth, with a lush fruit intensity and a structure of both dimension and finesse. More voluptuous than massive, Fonseca Ports are coveted for their sumptuous yet refined body and great longevity.

This tawny port has an average cask age of twenty years, it is a mature wine of deep amber color with russet highlights. The bouquets complex marriage of ripe, plummy fruit, warm cinnamon and butterscotch notes and subtle oak nuances are confirmed on the palate, which is full and voluminous, with a velvety texture carrying into a long, elegant finish.

Fonseca Guimaraens was founded in 1822, and continuity has been the name of the game ever since with the Guimaraens making wine ever since. Frank Guimaraens made all the vintages beginning with the 1896 through to the 1948. His daughter, Dorothy Guimaraens, following his death, made the 1955. Bruce Duncan Guimaraens, great-great grandson of the founder, made every Vintage from 1960 through to the 1992. As for the 1994 Vintage, Bruce Guimaraens' son, David Guimaraens was responsible for this extraordinary award winning port wine. This remarkable continuity of winemaker is clearly evident in the wine.
