Description

Legally, the wine may not be opened until 00.01hrs. on   Thursday, 21st November, 2024.

The 2024 harvest at Château de Vaux started on 14th September and we already new that, in terms of quantity, things were pretty catastrophic. In Beaujolais as a whole, this will be the smallest vintage since 1957 but at Vaux, we also lost 70% of our higher altitude crop due to the hail on 31st July. This, coupled with a long, protracted flowering, due to the cold weather, has resulted in us making three cuvées of red wine, rather than the usual twelve! The only saving grace is that the remaining bunches were really healthy and were free from mildew, unlike many growers who are further down in the valleys.

The small, thick skinned grapes guaranteed a deep-coloured wine but also with excellent aromatics,   leaning towards dark berry fruit, with a floral lift. The 2024 is very fresh, deep-flavoured wine with balancing acidity. Alcohol levels are slightly lower than usual at about 12.5˚C - 12.8˚C. This is a Nouveau very much in the classic vein with bags of succulent fruit which will be an excellent food partner but also a delight simply drunk on its own, hopefully with good friends.
